How we helped Worthing Business Circle achieve a website that is easy to use.
Worthing Business Circle is a well established breakfast networking group that takes place every Wednesday morning at Worthing Golf Club.
For over 3 years we had been maintaining the website for Worthing Business Circle, carrying out routine updates and security checks to ensure that the website was always displaying current information. This involved updating content, adding and removing members as they joined and left the group, changing the vacant categories as spaces were filled and switching images to keep the site looking fresh.
We had previously updated the group’s branding in 2024 and, as the website was over 6 years old, we felt that the time was right for an upgrade. We approached the Chair of Worthing Business Circle with the proposition of developing a brand new website. This would update the site design, improve user experience and give it a fresh look but also greatly improve the navigation of the backend of the site so that anyone with basic WordPress knowledge would have the capability to maintain the site if necessary..
The most significant change to the site was the implementation of Elementor, a drag and drop website building plugin that simplifies the creation process for websites. The use of Elementor meant that certain modules on the site no longer required code to be edited in order to change them.
Although we were effectively rebuilding the same site, we wanted to refresh everything and streamline user experience. We started by developing a fresh design for the website using the group’s main colour palette of red and white.
The members section also received quite a large overhaul. Instead of having lots of separate pages and clicks back and forth for the user, the committee is now displayed on the same page as the rest of the members in order to streamline the user experience and ensure all member information is located in one place. Alongside this, each individual member page now includes a section for information about the member as well as their business. This provides some extra personalisation to the site as the members are free to feature anything they wish from achievements to their personal interests.
As a result of us already managing the existing site for a long period of time, the organic SEO, as well as the content on the site, was already at a high standard, however at Constructive Marketing we always say a website is never finished. With a new website also comes new images, this meant that we needed to add alt text to them to ensure that search engines could decipher what was going on in them. The alt text isn’t only for this purpose, it also serves as a description for screen readers and bolsters the accessibility of the website.
The feedback from the members about the new design for the website has been very positive. We are thrilled that the new website has simplified navigation for the front and back end so that anyone can utilise it. This upgrade allows the maintenance and updates for the site to be carried out at a much faster pace.
